Czerne M. Reid is a science writer for University of Florida’s College of Medicine. Before joining UF in 2008, Czerne was the health and science writer at The State newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina. In 2007, the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation named her a Kaiser Media Fellow. Her fellowship project focused on the social and economic impact of HIV/AIDS in South Carolina. Czerne earned a Ph.D. in environmental chemistry at Emory University, and a graduate certificate in science communication at University of California, Santa Cruz. Her bachelor’s degree in chemistry is from University of the West Indies, Mona, in her native Jamaica. Czerne is a member of the National Association of Science Writers, the Association of Health Care Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Northern California Science Writers Association and the American Chemical Society.
